Solid rather than spectacular, this experienced goalkeeper is now back in Belgium with RSC Anderlecht after a spell abroad with Sporting Clube de Portugal. He made his international debut against Denmark in August 1989 but spent the next few years in the shadow of Michel Preud’homme, watching the 1990 and 1994 FIFA World Cups from the sidelines. After more than a decade of involvement in the Belgian squad, he is now the Red Devils’ first-choice ‘keeper having replaced former Anderlecht team-mate Geert De Vlieger at both club and international level.
