The powerful striker initially emerged with R. Excelsior Mouscron and then starred for R. Standard de Liege, with whom he scored 16 goals in 26 matches. While still a teenager, he made two substitute appearances with Belgium at the 1998 World Cup. He has since left the Belgian league for FC Schalke 04 for a Belgian record fee.
