He also started off impressively in the Euro 2000 qualifiers, scoring twice in the 3-0 victory over Northern Ireland in September 1998. However, he has since suffered a loss of form. Previously a perfect foil to Hakan Sükür with his strong running and work-rate, he only played a further five minutes after starting the first four Euro 2000 qualifying matches.
