Regarded by many as the best young prospect still plying his trade in the Portuguese league, the flamboyant attacker has yet to really show his form on the international stage. He initially starred for Boavista FC, but moved to SL Benfica in 1997, and has been one of the top scorers in portuguese football since. He was a prolific scorer at underage level for the national team. He made his senior debut in 1996, aged 19, coming on a substitute in a 3-2 defeat by France. Scored the winning goal of Portugal's 3-2 Euro Cup triumph over England in June 2000.
