Davies was the youngest player to win a Carling player-of-the-month award. Davies holds the record for the youngest player to appear in the Coca-Cola Cup when he came on against West Ham in September 1993 aged 16 years and 180 days. After representing England at Under-18, 19 and 21 level he scored 12 goals in the 1997-98 Premiership season. A joint winner of November Carling Player of the Month award he was shortlisted for the PFA Young Player of the Year award.
