Began career in 86 with Hajduk Split, signed for Metz in 90, a year later he joined AS Cannes, and from 92-94 he played for a third French first division club FC Montpellier. Went back to Hajduk Spilt with other famous players in 94. Champions League quarter-finalist in 94. Signed for Real Valladolid, and after the European Championships in England he joined Derby County with his former Hajduk colleague Igor Stimac, and in 1997 FC Napoli (Ita). On October 17, 1990 scored national side's first goal since it had declared its intention to become independent. Famous Swedish player Nils Liedholm called him a "professor of football". He has a great technic and a precise kick. He was member of the Croatian National Team at the Euro '96 in England and WC '98 in France.
